DELIOTTE

2022

I was hired for a 5-week engagement as a business analyst with Deloitte to assess and vet business plans for applicants of the Tony Elumelu Foundation in 2022. Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) is a non-profit organisation that empowers young African entrepreneurs across all 54 African countries. The foundation runs an annual entrepreneurship program that provides training, mentoring, seed funding and networking opportunities to develop and scale entrepreneurs’ business ideas.

I reviewed more than 1,300 business plans on the dedicated TEF web platform, evaluating them against the set specifications and requirements. As part of the review process, I identified promising businesses eligible for capital funding amounting to £3,800 each. During my evaluation process, I considered crucial aspects to assess the business plans like feasibility, market opportunity, scalability, and the demonstrated leadership potential of the entrepreneurs involved in these ventures. 40% of the business plans I reviewed were tech startups and businesses that leveraged technology to solve local challenges. In 2022, about £3.8 million was awarded to more than 1,000 entrepreneurs following an extensive review of their business plans amongst other things. All beneficiaries are granted life access to TEF’s digital platform where they can network with about 1.5 million African entrepreneurs.
